Kelvingrove Area - NEW !

These before and after photos were supplied by a Kelvingrove resident and clearly illustrate the failure of the Council's parking scheme.

Comments from the resident.......

"As you can see exactly the same has happened here as has happened in Cranstonhill, i.e. that the street has been deserted by commuter traffic.
Now this is great, the streets being empty is very pretty, but at financial cost to, us, the residents who didn't ask for this scheme and now have to pay for the privilege of parking in front of our own houses (I, personally, had few problems with parking in front of my house before). The Council's lack of thought about the metered parking scheme has landed us with streets and street of white lines and meters and, as can be seen from the photographs, very very few people want to pay & display. The meters will now require to be maintained and monitored whilst bringing in a miniscule revenue."

The meters came into effect on 04 Sep 05.

This next set of photos and text was submitted by a resident of Doune gardens in mid-September - more evidence of the consequences of the poorly thought out Council parking scheme.

"These are pics taken this week in Doune Gardens ( and one in LaCrosse Terrace.) It illustrates the dangers residents face in exiting Doune into Wilton St. usually in reverse. The public footpath is regularly blocked and Fire Vehicles would have very great difficulty in gaining access. The residents are very concerned.
Another side effect seems to be a rise in car break-ins and vandalism. Chaos is the order of the day."

This picture clearly shows how ineffective the Council's scheme for charging commuters has been in Cranstonhill.

These photos were taken by a contributor to meteredparking.org.uk who commented "Normally by 8am there isn't a single space left. As you can see the streets are now 80% empty."

Submit Photos Of Your Area

You are welcome to send in photos of the scheme's effects in your area but we'd kindly ask that you follow a few simple steps to help us when publishing your photos.

  • If you can put a date/time and location on your photos that would help people recognise them.
  • If you can, keep them as small a file size as possible. For example, 16-35kb would be ideal.
  • If you can, save them as JPEG (.jpg) format.
  • Please don't attach too many photos to one email, especially if they are larger files.

Commonly used image editing software like Adobe Photoshop (other photo editing software is available) can help you add text and reduce the file size of your photos. If you're not too sure what you're doing get in touch and our webadmin or other Metered Parking Action Group members should be able to help you.

To send us your photos please attach them to this email template.
